Paul Appleton and Nick Harkness

Paul Appleton (Left)

Paul is a National Honor Society student, a 3 sport athlete (football, basketball, and track), and a KHS Student Council Member. Paul was nominated for the 2009 Post Crescent Academic All-Stars and was chosen as a 2008 Badger Boys State Representative. Paul was a member of Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) and educated younger students regarding the dangers of tobacco use. Paul also served on the KHS Abstinence Panel and spoke to younger students about avoiding dangerous and risky behaviors.

Paul has a great desire to help others and is attending St. Norbert College to pursue a career in education. Along with KHS educators Paul was influenced by his father who is a teacher and football coach in the Appleton School District. Paul has an older sister and brother as well as a younger sister. Paul is the son of Peter and Anne Appleton.

Nick Harkness (Right)

As a National Honor Society student Nick competed in football and wrestling during high school. Nick was an active member of Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU) educating younger students about the dangers of tobacco, and was chosen for Badger Boys State. Nick was described by one of his nominees as a "renaissance man, one who is good at many and and varied things, yet who retains a fundamental decency and understanding of his fellow human beings." Nick regularly helped this nominee, a polio survivor, in and out of a pool for water therapy sessions.

Starting off at early age Nick was sketching ideas and building things with his hands. As he got to high school he began working with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and his love of design grew ever stronger. Nick is attending UW Fox and eventually UW Madison to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. Nick is the son of Larry and Geri Harkness.
